Chairman announces at the first rehearsal of the New Year.
“It is all change at Aughton Male Voice Choir and we are looking forward to moving into an exciting, enjoyable and successful 2012 with our talented team of our new Director of Music, Stephen Manning and new Accompanist, Andrew Lord,” announced Doug Bonner, Chairman of Aughton Male Voice Choir at Aughton Village Hall.
He said that “The Choir is set to enjoy another busy year. In 2011 we performed at a total of 20 events raising funds for 13 local charities, singing with two visiting choirs and two more on tour of the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean and at the inauguration of West Lancashire Borough’s first honorary Alderman, Geoff Roberts who was also the first President of Aughton Male Voice Choir. We also sang at a 60th, two weddings and three funerals. We think that this is a record year for us and its is pleasing that we have helped so many voluntary and church groups raise much needed fund to continue their important work!”
He continued “In 2012 our plan is to perform at 12 to 15 concerts, including a prestigious massed choir concert at Bridgewater Hall Manchester in February, a concert for the Mayor of West Lancashire Charities at Aughton St Michaels Parish Church, and a concert at the Palm House, in Sefton Park, Liverpool, additionally we are performing at three concerts with other choirs from South Wales and Nottinghamshire in the second half of the year.”
Our Chairman went on to thank both Joanne Fairclough our accompanist for the last 15 years and Neil Williams our Musical Director for the last four years who both left us at the end of 2011. He said: “We are very grateful for their commitment and dedication. We will miss Joanne’s confident accompaniment, and we will miss Neil’s leadership and creative drive. Neil’s arrangements enhanced our repertoire into an attractive blend of contemporary and traditional music. Neil produced more than 50 new arrangements for the Choir, which have been much appreciated by audiences over the last four years!”
The Chairman said, “We are delighted to announce that we have recruited Andrew Lord as our new accompanist and a new Director of Music, Stephen Manning BA, MBA, MMus. Both are talented musicians, and we look forward with confidence to our 38th year being equally successful for Aughton Male Voice Choir.”
